MUST protocols (Medical Update SMS Tsunami)

Local health workers, volunteers and the local community should be provided with the best possible means of prevention and treatment in case of a national disaster.

For this purpose, doctors and pharmacists from Leiden developed MUST protocols (Medical Update SMS Tsunami) together with CELLO. These documents contain first aid and survival advice as well as detailed prevention and treatment protocols, and have been translated into several languages.

The MUST protocols have been used by relief workers during the Tsunami in Asia and earthquakes in Pakistan and Haiti. The protocols were spread via SMS messages and satellite communication. The MUST protocols are not copyrighted and are therefore freely avaible for different organisations worldwide.
